Hospitals and Care Homes Jobs
Working in the Care sector and catering for the elderly or working as part of a larger team in a Hospital pose unique challenges. Catering for high risk and vulnerable individuals mean dietary requirements, portion control, health and hygiene standards and a firm understanding of allergens are critical here.
Team sizes and structure can vary depending on the location worked. Care homes generally have a Head Cook and an Assistant Cook with also a Catering Assistant or a General Assistant. Food style tends to be traditional British, home-cooked with some baking and desserts.
Hospitals will have a Head Cook or Head Chef then mixture of grades of Chef depending on the size of the output. Kitchen staff and Kitchen Porters for back of house and Ward Hosts for serving the food to the patients. The food can either be freshly made on-site or a re-generated offering site depending.
