Position: School Chef

Location: Tunbridge Wells

Working Hours: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm (Pre-Prep School Kitchen), optional 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm (Main Kitchen) - Term Time Only (34 weeks per year)

Employment Type: Full-time (42.5 hours per week) or Part-time (25 hours per week - flexible arrangement)

Salary: £12.60 - £13 per hour

Are you a passionate chef with experience in working in kitchens and a love for creating delicious meals for children? If so, we are seeking a skilled and dedicated Chef to oversee our pre-prep school kitchen. In addition to the morning shift, there is also an option to work in our main kitchen during the evening, allowing you to broaden your culinary expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals for children, considering any dietary restrictions or allergies.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the pre-prep school kitchen, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and safety in accordance with relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the school's staff and nutritionist to develop menus that promote healthy eating habits.
  • Monitor inventory, order supplies, and manage the budget to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Train and supervise kitchen assistants, ensuring they adhere to food safety and quality standards.
  • Foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the kitchen, promoting a healthy relationship with food for the children.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a chef, preferably in a school or catering environment.
  • A genuine passion for cooking and providing nutritious meals for children.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff and interact with children.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene regulations and best practices, including relevant certifications.
  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance is mandatory but this will be carried out for the successful applicant.
